In 1925, Heinrich Zimmerman organized the first World Animal Day on March 24, in Berlin. It was moved to October 4 in 1929, to coincide with the Feast Day of St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals. World Animal Day has become a global celebration for all animals and the people who love and respect them. It’s known on every continent and celebrated in different ways in many countries, with no regard to nationality, religion or political ideology.
F.R.I.E.N.D.S. is a safe haven for all horses in immediate need of assistance in South Florida. We educate the community about horse care, cost, dedication & long-term commitment because that is what ownership entails. We accept all EIA horses in the State of Florida. We work with researchers so they can work on better testing and for a vaccine for EIA. We aim to address the issue of disposable horses in the equine industry and local communities by rescuing them from neglect, abuse, abandonment, and starvation. We welcome volunteer support because they are eager to learn, hands-on, and are very dedicated with compassion for the animals we fight to save. Horses are magical for many people, so we start their rehabilitation by healing their physical needs and then their psychological needs.
“Celebrating World Animal Day gives F.R.I.E.N.D.S. a wonderful opportunity to be a catalyst in promoting animal welfare around the world. If you are passionate about horses, we have various programs and opportunities for volunteers to participate. Compassionate care and education are very important, and it is our obligation to the animals under our care and to our community to do so”.
