![]() ![]() MORE INFO TO FOLLOW! CHECK BACK OFTEN! CHICAGO BILL was rescued by F.R.I.E.N.D.S. on June 7, 2010 from a young woman who had gotten a Thoroughbred horse 3 weeks earlier. She said the horse was colicking and she no longer had the money to care for the horse nor for the second Thoroughbred she had taken in about a year ago. She was not intentionally abusing them; she simply did not know what to do for them and she no longer had the finances to care for them. Thank you to The Emily Vernon Foundation for Homeless and Abused Animals,Inc. The Emily Vernon Foundation made a very generous donation toward Chicago Bill's expenses for his vet bills including treatment for colic, his initial check up and evaluation, shots and worming, antibiotics for his skin infection, medicated bathing supplies for his coat and skin, feed, hay, supplements, farrier and dental care for the month of JUNE. We thank this very generous organization for their kind donation.
CHICAGO BILL aka CHEVY HAS BEEN SPONSORED!! A GREAT RESCUE STORY WITH A BEAUTIFUL ENDING!

![]() ![]() MORE INFO SOON TO FOLLOW! TIA'S MISS rescued June 7 came to F.R.I.E.N.D.S. because the young woman who had her no longer had the funds to care for her or the other thoroughbred she had recently gotten from somewhere in Palm Beach. Upon arriving at FRIENDS, the vet did a thorough check of both horses and immediately put them on a special diet to remove the large amount of sand they had ingested while living in the dirt paddock they were found in.
The owner was not intentionally abusing them but she simply didn't know what to do for them and she no longer had the finances to properly take care of them. While the vet was examining them, he documented the lip tattoo given to all racing thoroughbreds that can help us to trace the history of these horses. TIA'S MISS, the bay mare was raced at both Calder and Gulfstream tracks and had actually won $102,944 before she ended up in a sandy paddock in Davie. TIA'S MISS, once a very well kept, athletic race horse somehow had been left to this fate. We want to know how and why this has happened. We are currently trying to establish how this well-intentioned young woman came to own these horses. We are trying to find out if these horses were given to another rescue thinking they would be properly cared for and retrained for second careers other than racing and perhaps the rescue simply "re-cycled" the horses out of their facility to new owners without ascertaining if these new owners would be able to adequately care for the horse. We will keep you posted as to the progress of our recent rescues of local racehorses and how they came to be at F.R.I.E.N.D.S.
